Forrester’s Analytics Predictions for 2010

j0216064 150x150 photo (business analytics)Forrester Analyst James Kobielus (@jameskobielus) shared his business intelligence and advanced analytics predictions for 2010 in a recent posting on The Forrester Blog for Business Process & Applications Professionals. Kobielus foresees a “thoroughgoing transformation of business intelligence, data warehousing, predictive analytics, data mining, business activity monitoring, complex event processing and other key analytics.”

Kobielus’ predictions are in accordance with several emerging end user trends:

  • Companies are frustrated with traditional business intelligence systems that, in some cases, really only provide nicely formatted, scheduled reports.
  • Companies want to put more powerful business intelligence tools – from self-service business intelligence to predictive analytics – in the hands of many different levels of users.
  • Companies want to dive deeper and deeper into data to perform advanced analytics.
  • Companies are looking at how the explosion of social networking should be incorporated into business information environments.
  • Companies want to deploy business intelligence solutions rapidly and easily.

Both these predictions and user trends point to the driving need businesses have for solutions that are better than business intelligence and smarter than spreadsheets.
